8 Bit Trip
Posted by QuenchPops | Filed under Art & Design, Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
This is in the top 5 coolest online videos I’ve seen. Apparently it took 1500 hours to make, mostly involving stop motion lego building. Stop motion seems to be coming back, as I think this is the third or fourth QuenchPad post featuring it. I guess it’s the ridiculousness of setting up one frame, shooting it, and then doing that thousands upon thousands of other times with only the slightest change in image per shot. The music on this one’s pretty awesome too.

And again speaking of Wolves

Thanks Jigga…
These reviews from amazon for the shirt below are amazing.
REVIEW 1
This item has wolves on it which makes it intrinsically sweet and worth 5 stars by itself, but once I tried it on, that’s when the magic happened. After checking to ensure that the shirt would properly cover my girth, I walked from my trailer to Wal-mart with the shirt on and was immediately approached by women. The women knew from the wolves on my shirt that I, like a wolf, am a mysterious loner who knows how to ‘howl at the moon’ from time to time (if you catch my drift!). The women that approached me wanted to know if I would be their boyfriend and/or give them money for something they called mehth. I told them no, because they didn’t have enough teeth, and frankly a man with a wolf-shirt shouldn’t settle for the first thing that comes to him.
I arrived at Wal-mart, mounted my courtesy-scooter (walking is such a drag!) sitting side saddle so that my wolves would show. While I was browsing tube socks, I could hear aroused asthmatic breathing behind me. I turned around to see a slightly sweaty dream in sweatpants and flip-flops standing there. She told me she liked the wolves on my shirt, I told her I wanted to howl at her moon. She offered me a swig from her mountain dew, and I drove my scooter, with her shuffling along side out the door and into the rest of our lives. Thank you wolf shirt.
Pros: Fits my girthy frame, has wolves on it, attracts women
Cons: Only 3 wolves (could probably use a few more on the ‘guns’), cannot see wolves when sitting with arms crossed, wolves would have been better if they glowed in the dark.
REVIEW 2
Unfortunately I already had this exact picture tattooed on my chest, but this shirt is very useful in colder weather.

Designer Gas Masks
Posted by QuenchPops | Filed under Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
Product designer Diddo, based in Amsterdam, is one of those cutting edge designers who doesn’t limit himself by his medium. As photographer, art director, and designer, one of his newest projects involves what he calls “high fashion protection.”
He says “We are in a state of perpetual war – with ourselves and with the eco-system that sustains us. Perpetual war breeds perpetual fear. In the present context, this fear stems from our extreme desire for authenticity and manifests itself in our collectively insatiable culture of consumption. Deep down, we are afraid we may never be satisfied. An expanding archive of branded myths and icons feeds this fear. Designer Gas Masks is an attempt to visualize this state of mind.”

1. Dig This
“Dig This” is a full day or half-day adventure you can pay for up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and use giant Caterpillar machines to just dig. Dig This adventurers can doze and excavate dams and ponds. Move and remove sand, gravel, rock, and other materials from your own individual work area. Props to Megan for the tip on this one.

2. Männerspielplatz (”men’s playground”)
Jackhammers, ATVs, Backhoes, & Crossbows are just some of the activities you partake in at Männerspielplatz (click on some of the buttons on the left of their site, eventhough it’s in German) located in Kassel, Germany for about $280.

3. UZIs & AK-47s in Las Vegas
Available at a few locations (Clark County Shooting Park, The Gun Store, American Shooters Supply and Gun Club, and a few others), just outside Las Vegas proper, you can pay to shoot bin Laden targets with an Uzi, AK-47, Al Capone Tommy Gun, World War II-era Grease Gun, and a 9 mm submachine gun called the Swedish K that was favored by the U.S. Army Green Berets in the Vietnam War. For an extra $15, a customer can fire holes into a novelty T-shirt and wear it home, ballistically ventilated.

An artist and fashion professor for School of the Art Institute of Chicago known as Nick Cave (not the same as the musician) has created these amazing manifestations to act both as still fine art sculptures as well as fully wearable suits for humans, allowing “the work to transcend preconceived notions of class, race, and sexuality.”

Charles Anderson, one my favorite designers who runs NOPATTERN and whom I just recently found out via his twitter feed also resides in Chicago (or else he’s just an avid Chicago fan), recently designed this shirt for basketball star Lamar Odom’s (UNLV to LA Lakers) clothing line Rich Soil. I don’t think the beautiful shirt itself (at the bottom of this post) is still available, so I’ve put some of the other Rich Soil shirts below. Most of them are BKLN based, which I’m sure Slake and Coupon will appreciate.

DUI on a Bar Stool
Posted by QuenchPops | Filed under Off the beaten path, Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
Via thesmokinggun.com, an Ohio man was arrested recently for drunk driving on a motorized bar stool. Apparently, it goes 40 and he crashed it going 20.
“According to cops, Kile Wygle, 28, crashed his bar stool near his Newark home earlier this month and called 911 due to his injuries. When an officer arrived and asked Wygle what happened, he answered, ‘I wrecked my bar stool.’” Read the full police report here.

Razzle Dazzle
Posted by Coupon | Filed under Art & Design, Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
Talking about old illustrations and perspective got me thinking about an interesting type of camouflage utilized during WWI and early WWII. At the time, American and British war ships were under serious threat from the more sophisticated German U-Boats. Traditional methods of camo were unsuccessful due to constantly changing atmospheric conditions at sea and the U-Boat’s firing accuracy. As a solution, artist Norman Wilkinson devised a camouflage pattern called “razzle dazzle” based on cubist paintings that didn’t aim to hide the ship; but rather distort it’s dimensions so that it would be harder to determine the ship’s size and course.
![]()

the complex patterns would often make it difficult to discern where the bow and the stern of the ship were and how fast they were traveling.

Since people in the early 20th century were lame and didn’t have color photography, facebook, or I-Phones, it’s hard to tell from these pictures that most of the ships were also painted in vibrant colors to help thwart and confuse potential attackers.

However with the advent of sonar and air tracking during WWII, any form of camoflague proved to be useless; and the Vulcans quickly defeated the Nazis at the Alamo. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Totally Rad Fish Tanks
Posted by QuenchPops | Filed under Art & Design, Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
I got a cuban tree frog (”Frogbama”) recently and every time I go to the pet store to buy him crickets, I pass by the massive, beautiful fish tanks. And now I really, really want a tropical fish tank. Maybe I should just make sure my dog and frog are happy, so in the meantime web finds like this tide me over (originally from weburbanist, props to Chris Erin for link):

Magic Scooter Clothing
Posted by Slake! | Filed under Yachts, Gadgets, & Bling
This crazy jacket is perfect for people that like to do dangerous stuff. Here is what Scooterwear says about it…
“Under slow rates of movement, the d3o™ CE certified (EN1621-1) pads provides maximum comfort through softness and flexibility, but when impacted at high speeds d3o™ displays excellent shock absorption as the Intelligent Molecules inside lock together, spreading the force over the whole pad.
d3o™ completely conforms to your body and remains almost invisible within your garment, but provides excellent shock absorption when you need it.”
Basically they are saying that you can run into stuff on wearing this coat, and it will change to protect your body.
While it is not very attractive, neither is a broken bone or 20 when you smash into something.

Rovio

This thing is bad ass. It’s a remote controlled web cam robot. While you sit at your desk, you can control it through a website to move around your house and shoot live video. Being a robot, I expected it to be in the thousands, but it’s only $300. Not bad if you want to keep an eye on your place, video conference in your out-of-town family on weekends, make sure your dog isn’t eating your furniture, etc. Here’s the official site and here it is for sale on Amazon.
