Artificial Paradise

Belgian Director Jean-Paul Frenay directed the following short film. While his explanation doesn’t really pan out until the very end, it doesn’t really matter because the animation and sound design are so top notch. Here’s the description from JP: “Artificial Paradise, Inc is an experimental film anticipating a future where a major corporation has developed an unique software, based on organic virtual reality, which holds all the lost memories of humankind. A user connects to this database of the forgotten…what is he searching for?”

Purely Natural Art

Patrick Dougherty

Check out sculptor Patrick Dougherty’s stick art. He says “I think that part of my work’s allure is its impermanence, the life cycle that is build into the growth and decay of saplings…. I believe that a sculpture, like a good flower bed, has its season… I have seen some intriguing drawings of living trees as the core of a modern home. Although my sculptures are not meant for habitation, they tend to remind people of their profound connection to the world of plants and seem to foster fantasies of fading back into the forest for a day.”

Andy Goldsworthy

Patrick Dougherty reminds me a lot of renowned nature artist Andy Goldsworthy, the founder of modern rock balancing and stick sculpture. He says, “I think it’s incredibly brave to be working with flowers and leaves and petals. But I have to: I can’t edit the materials I work with. My remit is to work with nature as a whole.”
